Additional Helpful Information About Traveling in Costa Rica

Cash/Currency:
The colón (plural: colones; sign: ₡; code: CRC) is the currency of Costa Rica. 500 colones is equivalent to approximately one dollar, but make sure you check the exchange rate before your trip. U.S. dollars are widely accepted in Costa Rica, although bills larger than $20 may be difficult.
Travel Tip: If you are making a smaller purchase at a local convenient store or soda, try not to pay with large colones bill. For example, if you want to buy a Casado for 2,500 colones, try not to us a 20,000 colones bill.
The hotel accepts American Express, Visa and Mastercard. It’s always good to advise your credit card company when you are traveling abroad.

Climate:
Costa Rica is pleasantly warm and dry in February, with temperatures ranging from the low to mid-70s to low 90s Fahrenheit.

Electricity:
110 volts/60 cycles is standard in Costa Rica. U.S. travelers will not typically need a converter or adapter.

Water:
You can drink tap water in Costa Rica safely in almost every part of the country.

Internet Service:
Complimentary Wi-Fi internet available in your room and common areas

Time Zone: Costa Rica observes Central Standard Time all year. Please be aware that Costa Rica does not observe Daylight Savings Time.

Language:
The official and predominant language of Costa Rica is Spanish but you’ll find that English is widely spoken in most tourist areas.

Medicine:
Always carry prescription medication in the original container and keep them in your carry-on bag. If you wear eyeglasses or contacts, you should pack an extra pair.

Medical Insurance:
We recommend checking your medical insurance to verify you are covered for medical emergencies, treatment, hospitalization and evacuation while abroad as not all insurance covers travel emergencies. You may wish to purchase additional medical insurance for the trip.

Valuables:
We strongly suggest leaving your valuables at home. If you do travel with them, do not pack valuables in your checked luggage. Each room has a safe for your convenience.
